DJI, known for its pioneering technology in drones, is now venturing into the world of electric bikes with its new Avinox drive system and Amflow e-bike brand. This expansion marks a significant step for the company, introducing the Amflow PL electric mountain bike equipped with the Avinox motor and a fast-charging battery. With features that rival top competitors like Bosch and Specialized, DJI is set to make a splash in the e-bike market.
The cornerstone of the Amflow PL e-bike is DJI’s Avinox drive system, boasting an impressive 120Nm of max torque and 1000W of on-demand boost power. This powerful mid-drive motor, rated at 250W of nominal output and 850W peak, allows riders to conquer steep inclines with ease. The system’s removable 800Wh battery can charge rapidly, reaching 75% in just 1.5 hours using the GaN charger provided by Amflow.
Despite its robust power and battery capacity, the Amflow PL is surprisingly lightweight at 19.2kg. This is achieved through the use of a carbon fiber frame and the Avinox drive system, which together contribute to the bike’s agile performance. The inclusion of a two-inch color OLED touchscreen display integrated into the frame allows riders to access key information conveniently. Additionally, the Avinox app provides wireless connectivity for monitoring riding data and accessing the bike’s features.
Christina Zhang, senior director of corporate strategy at DJI, emphasizes the company’s expertise in battery and motor technology derived from its work in drones and camera stabilization systems. This knowledge has culminated in the creation of the Avinox drive system, showcasing DJI’s commitment to innovation in the e-bike industry. The company’s expansion into electric bikes aligns with its mastery of essential technologies such as reliable motor development, battery management, and mechanical engineering.
In addition to its foray into e-bikes, DJI has been actively involved in developing intelligent driving solutions for automobiles in China and entering the consumer battery market with power stations. The Amflow PL is slated for release in Q4, with pricing estimates ranging from €7,000 to €12,000 ($7,500 to $12,850), positioning it in direct competition against premium electric sport bikes like Specialized’s Turbo series. As DJI expands its reach into new industries, its innovative approach is poised to disrupt and revolutionize the e-bike market.
