Snapchat Partners with The Lincoln Center to Merge Art and AR

Snapchat has once again shown its commitment to merging traditional art with modern technology through a new initiative in partnership with The Lincoln Center. The latest exhibition, titled “Ghost Variations”, encourages visitors to download the Snap app to experience augmented reality activations around the displayed works. This project, created by AR developer Alexis Zerafa and digital artist Sophie Kahn, aims to visualize mental health and sound through Snapchat’s AR Lens technology. The exhibition will be available to experience through August 10th.

The subject of “Ghost Variations” is the 19th-century composer Robert Schumann, who relied on the music of J.S. Bach during his final years in a psychiatric asylum. The exhibition features larger-than-life Snapchat augmented reality sculptures of Schumann, Bach, and other contemporary models. Sophie Kahn recorded Schumann’s music underwater, mapped the waveforms onto the monumental heads, and created a visual representation of how we listen to music. This unique blend of classical music and modern technology creates an immersive art experience for visitors.

Snapchat’s collaboration with The Lincoln Center is just one of many initiatives aimed at enhancing art experiences through AR technology.
