The Future of League Of Geeks: A Studio in Hibernation

League Of Geeks, the renowned Australian developers known for fantasy strategy games like Armello and Solium Infernum, have made a tough decision. They have announced that the studio will be going “into hibernation.” This means that the remaining staff will be taking an extended break, and there is uncertainty regarding whether the studio will be revived in the future.

The studio, which has been independent for over 13 years, has cited the current economic situation in the gaming industry as a primary reason for their decision. League Of Geeks mentioned that the vast majority of their team has already moved on to new opportunities, and the ones remaining will be taking a well-deserved break in the coming months.

Despite receiving strong reviews for their latest release, Solium Infernum, League Of Geeks has faced challenges in generating sufficient sales to fund further development or DLC. The studio had to pause the development of Jumplight Odyssey, a spaceship colony sim, and laid off half of their staff due to rising operating costs, a weak Australian dollar, and poor sales.

League Of Geeks has expressed uncertainty about the future of their studio. They have acknowledged that their decision to put the studio in hibernation is a difficult one, but they are proud of their achievements and the support they have received from the gaming community. Despite the setbacks, the studio is planning to release Jumplight Odyssey out of Early Access within the next 12 months, albeit without the originally envisioned fully realized version 1.0 release.

League Of Geeks’ announcement of going into hibernation signifies a challenging period for the studio. While the future remains uncertain, the developers are taking a much-needed break to reassess their options. The gaming community will undoubtedly be watching closely to see if League Of Geeks will be able to overcome these obstacles and make a comeback in the future.
